D’Banj’s Controversial “Oliver Twist” Video Goes Viral
Budding Nigerian pop star Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo, better known by his stage name of D’Banj, was the subject of controversy in late 2011 when his lewdly-themed song Oliver Twist began surfacing on air waves around the world and now, with a co-sign from Kanye West, the song is promising to launch his career to new heights.
Despite his recent emergence as a music star in North America, D’Banj has long been lauded as one of the best musical acts to come out of Africa in some time. After enjoying success with his native Nigerian Mo’ Hits record label, he was signed to G.O.O.D. Music, the record label owned and promoted by megastar Kanye West, in June of 2011, launching him to near-instant international stardom.
Opinions vary about the his lead G.O.O.D. Music single, the aforementioned Oliver Twist – as is the case with so many popular songs, the kids love it while the adults condemn the sex-fueled lyrics, but there is no denying the appeal of the song or the artist.
