Radioactive Ninja Turtles? No, They’re Aliens Now

Posted March 20, 2012 by kennyp in Articles

Loyal fans of the long-running Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series of comics, movies, cartoons, toys and other paraphernalia are up in arms following news that the latest live action film installment of the series will rewrite the turtles’ history, portraying them as alien visitors as opposed to radioactively mutated and very terrestrial reptiles.

Dropping the “Teenage Mutant” and retaining only “Ninja Turtles,” director Michael Bay has revealed that he’ll be taking the four lovable turtles in an entirely new direction with his interpretation of the franchise, leaving doubts in many minds as to how exactly he plans to keep other important facets of the storyline intact. Will Splinter still originate as a pet of ninja Himato Yoshi or will he, too, come from another planet?

How likely are there to be giant rats and turtles on other planets, anyway?

The revelation prompted an open letter from Robbie Rist, the actor who voiced Michelangelo in the the original film, who accused Bay of “sodomizing” the characters and their story. Ouch.

So what do you think? An exciting change for the better or a “sodomizing” of a well-loved story? Let us know in the comments!
